No summer is complete without camp, and Sci-Tech Discovery Center’s day camps will return next week! Frisco’s leading family-friendly cultural and educational destination will host a series of educational summer camps for North Texas children during the weeks of June 15-Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day camps allow kids from first through eighth grades to explore the fascinating world of science through hands-on activities with experienced teachers. Campers will also have exclusive access to explosive stage shows and have time to explore the museum’s exhibits as a class.
The camps have been updated to follow recommended CDC, American Camp Association and local guidelines to create a healthy environment in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This summer, camps have been reduced to 50% capacity. Campers will have their own dedicated supplies and kits to reduce physical sharing of supplies, and they’ll also have larger work spaces to themselves. Staff will wear facial masks and the general public will not be allowed entry to the museum during camp hours. All campers and staff will have temperature checks each morning and again at mid-day. Sanitation efforts will be increased.
STEM Camps for 1st through 4th graders introduce kids to science and technology in the world around them. This summer, they will step into the museum’s CSI lab, learn to care for its resident reptiles, and mix up some very messy chemistry. STEM camp themes include Wildlife Explorers, Mixed-Up Chemists and Daring Detectives.
MAKER camps are ideal for kids entering 5th-8th grade who love to tinker, disassemble, invent and create. Campers can use hand tools for big wooden builds, learn to code, assemble circuitry and engineer mechanical devices. MAKER camp themes include Mad Scientists, Codemasters and Mythbusters Lab.
Summer camps for 1st through 4th graders are $275/week per child for members and $325/week per child for nonmembers. For 5th through 8th graders, the cost is $285/week per child for members and $335 per week per child for nonmembers.
