All Cantina Laredo locations in North Texas will be offering house-made tamales to go, with pick up available every day with at least six hours notice. Both Chicken and Beef tamales will be available at $16.95/dozen. Orders for tamales will be accepted now through Dec. 24. All Cantina Laredo locations will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Tamale Facts
• The corn masa-and-meat bundles — individually wrapped in corn husks and then steamed — are part of the traditional Mexican celebration of las posadas, which commemorates Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter before the birth of Jesus.
• One theory is tamales have been traditional Christmas Eve fare for centuries because they’re portable, easy to store and inexpensive to make for large gatherings.
• Through the years, the preparation of the labor-intensive food became a social event, called a tamalada, as womenfolk from ranches across Mexico and what’s now the American Southwest gathered to prepare the Christmas Eve feast.
• Tamales date back to the 13th century and the Aztec empire.

Those interested in placing an order should call their local Cantina Laredo to make reservations.
